Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur was a BIG shock to the system! Eyes a little wide taking it all in! Just a few days ago I was on a tiny island, with few people, sleeping in a tent the beach…
I must say though, I do love the electric feeling down the spine, from the towering buildings, seeing the lights, experiencing the energy, the rush of people on a mission, so different from the beach.
My first night I stayed in a little a little guest house on a dodgy street in a great vibey area. For my last 2 nights, I decided to treat myself and use my air miles to book 2 nights in a fancy hotel in the same vibey area! I thought I would start easing into real life (ok pretend real life…).
I was laughing, as I wheeled my little carry-on case the 5 minutes up the block to my new hotel. The transition was vast, all it takes is a few steps and life is unrecognisable!
My room had the softest bed and pillows, I’ve been sleeping on rocks compared to these – it was heaven!! The hospitality of everyone I have met in KL has been amazing, what a friendly place!
I have never been to KL and was eager to see the Petronas Twin Towers. I was really excited walking up to them and I wasn’t disappointed they are awesome – so beautiful, especially at night.
I walked the streets, with my nose pointed up looking at all the amazing buildings. Enjoyed the vibe of the Bukit Bintang area and Jalan Alor street, chocker block with little restaurants and food stalls I kept near the dim sum stalls – so good!
China Town and the markets nearly got me, I love my cheap Asian shopping outings – but was VERY restrained and didn’t need to buy a new bag to hold everything in!
Walking km around the city taking in the sights my legs are now officially sore. Luckily, Uber helped me out a couple of times – love Uber!
A trip to the Batu Caves to see the big Hindu God statue and climb 272 steps in the blazing sun, I stopped to check out the view a few times…
I hadn’t really done anything scary for me on this trip so made myself walk on a little suspended bridge over the Eco Forest (a fear of heights, I didn’t conquer last year…). I was a little hot and sweaty when I finished and it wasn’t from the heat!!!
A last trip back to the towers and I was done, my trip has ended!!
I had an amazing time seeing places beyond my expectations. I only ended up with one permanent scar (a burn from kicking an oil lamp…) which is good going for me! This has really been a great trip, lots of bucket list ticks.
Now back to work! But – not in Cape Town. I fly to Mauritius in the morning – honestly, it is work… I had to get there as quick as possible after my trip, this is as quick as I can make it – I hope I have some clean clothes to wear for my meetings!! Back to Cape Town on the Weekend.
