Lots to Buy!

Today blew my mind a bit, I started to shop for everything I need on the trip, as I was piling things into the trolley the enormity of the trip hit me. I’m not just shopping for me and a nice little 2 week holiday, I am kitting out 3 Landrovers and catering for 10 people, not just food items but everything that we will need to be self-sufficient for a year!

I, of course, won’t buy food for a year, we will buy fresh along the way, but bought things like spices, mustard, those type of things you miss when you can’t get them. All the other items, tents, chairs, mattress, plates,  etc etc etc etc etc  x 10,  rescue gear, medical bags, fridges, tables, lights the list was a long one of things that needed to be purchased. I ran out of space in my car to take it all home and I don’t think I am halfway through my list!

The one nice thing about all this shopping was the camping stores.  I really do love camping and I especially love really cool camping equipment, I love a gadget!  There are some very clever things out there, that you HAVE to have! I went to 6  different stores and felt like a kid in a candy store, or me in a candy store for that matter! I needed everything!!!  Luckily I’m a Libra so was able to pull the reins in and balance the really cool stuff I just couldn’t live without with the essentials I really did need to buy to achieve the goal of the group being self-sufficient on the road.

We will probably only in reality actually camp once or twice a week during the 11 months of the trip but will need to be able to prepare food every day on the road. The rest of the time we will stay in b&bs, hotels, lodges whatever makes sense or we can afford in all the different countries. There are some countries I have been to before and stayed in the best hotel in town and to tell you the truth I would prefer to camp any day!
